The Wessex Mental Health and Dementia Clinical Network recently organised two events in Southampton that over 150 people attended. The audiences included people with lived experience, NHS professionals and partner organisations from Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

‘Visions of the Future’

‘Visions of the Future’ was designed to promote innovation, community co-production and new approaches to delivering support.

The first three speakers delivered inspiring keynotes on diverse topics:

  • Dr Julie Repper, Director of ImROC, talked about co-production in practice, pulling on her significant international experience and knowledge of this area and community mobilisation.
  • Menno van Doorn, Director of the Sogeti Research Institute for the Analysis of New Technology (VINT) talked about the institute’s international research on Digital Happiness.
  • Finally, Dr Karl Marlowe, Medical Director at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, shared the renowned approach to quality improvement of the East London NHS Foundation Trust, where he previously worked as Clinical Director.

The keynote speakers were followed by a panel discussion and presentations on local crisis innovations across Wessex. People shared local ‘on the ground’ experiences and discussed topics about changing approaches in commissioning and delivery in afternoon sessions that covered: ‘New approaches using technology and data’, ‘Enabling people to own their outcomes and recovery’ and ‘The emerging workforce’.

The attendees were asked what further support they would like from the network and the feedback will be used to shape the future work programme for the clinical network.
