The Spotlight Project Summary Report
A collaborative piece of work between the Royal College of General Practitioners (RGCP) and Wessex Clinical Network, focusing on educating GP teams in perinatal mental health, by Dr Carrie Ladd.
This was an ambitious idea to explore the potential of a GP Champion role in Perinatal Mental Health at a time when General Practice is under huge stress across the country. It was unknown if GPs would be interested or able to commit to the time needed for this project given these pressures. However, as well as achieving the goals they set themselves, the Champions have set up a legacy in terms of all being asked to return the following year to give similar talks to their audiences. This pilot has proved not only the potential reach of GP Champions but the feasibility of asking busy professionals to take up a leadership role in cascading education to their peer networks.
